Udhyanidhi Stalin-starred Tamil film, `Gethu’ is facing the issue of granting the Entertainment Tax Exemption . The Madras High Court on Thursday passed an interim stay against the order of a single judge directing the State government to provide entertainment tax exemption to Tamil movie ‘ Gethu ’.The Tax Exemption Committee of the Government refused to grant exemption for the U certified film stating that the title Gethu was not a Tamil word. Actor and Producer of this movie Udhay had approached the Madras High Court stating that Gethu is indeed a Tamil word and it is included in Tamil dictionary.In its appeal, the department said its investigation had revealed that the word `Gethu’ had its origin in Kannada, and that it ought to have been spelled `Kethu’ to qualify as Tamil word. Now the Government has obtained a stay for this order from a Two judge bench of the same court.
